
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Waste Management Program will host a public hearing regarding a proposed sanitary landfill near La Monte at 4:30 p.m. Monday, December 15, in the Heckart Community Center in Sedalia.
The hearing is on the draft sanitary disposal area construction permit for the Presidio Environmental Repository Facility, owned by Pettis County Development Company, LLC. The proposed sanitary landfill will be used for the disposal of municipal solid waste, bulky waste, demolition and construction waste, brush and wood waste, soil, rock concrete, tires and inert solids.
The proposed site is located at 20850 Buckley Road, which is approximately 2.5 miles east of La Monte, 2.75 miles northwest of Dresden, and 8.75 miles northwest of Sedalia, Missouri. It consists of 520 acres, of which the landfill disposal area is approximately 80.5 acres.
The department’s Waste Management Program reviews all applications submitted by cities, counties and private owners to ensure that sanitary disposal areas are properly designed and constructed. Other technical factors that protect Missouri’s environment are also examined.
Citizens can review a copy of the draft sanitary disposal area construction permit at the Sedalia Public Library. A copy for review is also available upon request at the Waste Management Program Record Center in Jefferson City. Citizens must first call 573-751-3043 or facsimile 573-522-3344 a request to the Custodian of Records, prior to their review at the Waste Management Program Record Center.
