Recent developments surrounding Fitzgibbon Hospital and its services have prompted Marshall Public Schools Supt. Caleb Petet to hit pause on plans to establish a walk-in clinic for the district’s staff.

Petet advised the board of education at their meeting Tuesday, Dec. 9 that he was delaying consideration on whether the district should enlist Fitzgibbon, Katy Trail Community Health, or another provider to run a walk-in clinic. Petet tells KMMO News the pause is intended to ensure that potential partners are in a long-term position to support the effort and Marshall community as a whole.

Petet says while several providers have expressed interest in running the proposed clinic, only Fitzgibbon and Katy Trail have submitted memoranda of understanding for formal consideration.  Fitzgibbon announced last week that their Home Health and Hospice and in-patient behavioral health unit, along with health clinics in Brunswick and Fayette would close at the end of the month.

Also Tuesday night, Petet presented initial plans to shift the location of the new bus barn at the Northeast Campus.

Conversion of the former Habilitation Center’s dietary and maintenance buildings are being funded in part by funds remaining from construction of the Marshall Intermediate School, which came in under budget. The school board is expected to consider the change at a future meeting.

The Marshall board of education voted Tuesday night to accept the annual audit, which only found that the district’s food service balance was not spending down its allotment of federal funds. The board also approved the district’s Annual Performance Report, as presented by director of teaching and learning Laura Jacobi.
