The Missouri Veterans Commission is hosting a holiday wreath-laying event to honor and remember our nation’s Veterans at each of the six Missouri Veterans cemeteries at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13.
The event, Wreaths Across America, started in 1992 when the Worcester Wreath Company began donating wreaths to be placed at the headstones in Arlington National Cemetery. Higginsville Veterans Cemetery Director Kelly Larkin describes how this tradition transformed into a national program.
The Missouri Veterans Cemeteries in Higginsville, Bloomfield, Fort Leonard Wood, Jacksonville, Springfield, and St. James are all hosting ceremonies on Saturday. Larkin says Higginsville’s ceremony gets started at 11 a.m.
The ceremony will begin with a welcome from retired U.S. Army Veteran David L. Meyer, and feature Navy Veteran and former Missouri State Representative Jim Seigfried as the guest speaker.
The Missouri Veterans Commission has partnered with Wreaths Across America since 2009. Click here to learn more about Wreaths Across America.
