The Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville held a wreath-laying event and ceremony on Saturday, December 13. 

The Missouri Veterans Commission partnered with Wreaths Across America to help honor the sacrifices of the men and women who have served in the Nation’s military.

Despite the frigid temperatures Saturday morning, volunteers came to the cemetery to help lay more than 4,500 wreaths at each headstone. The event opened with a ceremony at 11 a.m., which included a speech from Navy Veteran and former Missouri State Representative Jim Seigfried, as well as a musket volley and the playing of Taps from the Missouri Society Sons of the American Revolution.

Similar events were held at the Missouri Veterans Cemeteries in Bloomfield, Fort Leonard Wood, Jacksonville, Springfield, and St. James.
