Both Mizzou basketball teams posted comfortable victories Sunday, Dec. 14, with the Tiger men defeating Bethune-Cookman 82-60 at Mizzou Arena, while the women claimed an 82-66 win on the road at the St Louis Billikens.
In the men’s contest, Jacob Crews went eight-of-nine on the afternoon, including three baskets from three-point range, to lead the Tigers with 20 points. Mark Mitchell was right behind with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Anthony Robinson II added 15 points and seven assists. Mizzou shot 57.6 percent from the field, including seven treys out of 19 attempts. The Mizzou men will have a week off to prepare for the annual Braggin’ Rights game against Illinois on Dec. 22 at the Enterprise Center.
Meanwhile, the Mizzou women have already made a trip to the Gateway City, prevailing over St Louis University at Chaifetz Arena. The Tigers overcame an eight-point deficit early in the contest to go on a 17-2 run, aided by three-point baskets from Jayla Smith and Abbey Schreacke. Another double-digit run in the second quarter allowed Mizzou to take a 15-point lead to the locker room at the half, eventually cruising through the second half to lock up their tenth win of the season.
Grace Slaughter, Shannon Dowell, and Chloe Sotell each had 16 points to lead the Tigers, with Sotell claiming four of Mizzou’s ten three-point baskets. The Tigers were 44 percent from the field. Mizzou’s women are back at Mizzou Arena next weekend, hosting North Alabama at noon Sunday.
