A Slater juvenile accused of bringing a firearm to an area school will face arraignment in Saline County Circuit Court the afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 18.

Court records indicate that 17-year-old Anthony Ray McDaniel is charged with carrying a loaded weapon to the Slater School District’s campus the morning of Sept. 23, 2025, as well as theft of a firearm, first degree burglary, and tampering with a judicial officer. According to a probable cause statement, the Saline County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report that a student had brought a gun to school that morning. Several witnesses informed deputies at the school that McDaniel had told them that he had brought a gun to school.

Deputies then questioned McDaniel, who according to the statement initially denied bringing a gun to school, then later told authorities that he had forgotten that he had tucked the gun in his waistband. Deputies say McDaniel then confessed to breaking into a neighbor’s home to take the gun. They also noted in their statement that after he was taken into custody, McDaniel became combative and attempted to flip a table, then threw a chair at deputies questioning him.

A Saline County judge ruled last month that McDaniel could be transferred to an adult jail and charged as an adult. McDaniel remains behind bars on a $15,000 cash-only bond.
