The Moberly City Council voted to exempt the city from provisions in the Missouri State Statute that extends the hours liquor can be sold by the drink during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Missouri State Legislators approved an amendment to the State Statute (RSMo Section 311.2026) to temporarily extend the hours that liquor licensees can serve alcohol throughout the duration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Tournament from June 11, 2026, to July 19, 2026. During this time, holders of a liquor license for sale by the drink may operate 24 hours a day, and may serve alcoholic beverages between 6 a.m. and 5 a.m. of the following day.

The amendment does allow political subdivisions, including the Moberly City Council, to exempt themselves from the act by ordinance. Community Relations Manager Scott McGarvey says the council decided to opt out of this provision.

The council approved this action during its meeting on Monday, December 15.

In other news from this meeting, the council approved a continuing Law Enforcement Education Agreement with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

The Council’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 5.
