The Carrollton Trojans picked up a pair of decisive victories over the Santa Fe Chiefs on Thursday, Dec. 18 in a doubleheader heard on KMMO-FM 102.9.

The Trojan boys broke open a relatively close game at the the half and then pulled away during the last two quarters to roll past the Chiefs.75-51. Sophomore Liam Potter contributed a sizzling 36 points for the winners. He had 14 regular field goals, a three-pointer and five free throws. Tacking on 19 points for the 4-3 Trojans was another sophomore, Casson Kipping.

In the nightcap, things were fairly close for a half as the home team was on top, only 18-16 after one period and then 34-26 at the break The third quarter saw the Trojans outscore the Chiefs 30-15 during that eight minute stretch with the Carrollton advantage growing to 64-41 heading into the final period left before they coasted home with a 24-point win. Santa Fe lost for the fourth time in their last five outings while falling to 5-4 on the season, Ethan Finkeldei paced Santa Fe with 15 points as Korben Dierking and Logan Wilsie both added a dozen.

In the girls contest, the visiting Chiefs failed to score during the first seven minutes of both the first half and the second half, as the Trojans had built for themselves a 17-3 lead after one period and then a 32-7 advantage at the break. That occurred before the home team widened their advantage to 41-11 as they went on to win by a score of 46-15.

Coasting home as the contest ended with the running clock in effect, Taylor Pierson tallied 13 points with Emmy Lock and Jenna Owen both tossing in 10 as Carrollton’s girls improved to a perfect 7-0 on the season. Santa Fe dropped to 6-3 with the loss as Mia Lark led the Chiefs with a six-point performance.

Friday night on our airwaves, we’ll have a doubleheader from the W-K Shootout at “The Fred” on the State Fair Community College campus in Sedalia. The girls game between Crest Ridge and Osceola is scheduled to tip off at around 7:30 p.m., with the boys contest to follow. Pregame will begin around 7:20 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9. On KMMO AM 1300, the Marshall Owls host the Moberly Spartans. Pregame coverage ahead of the girls matchup is at 5:50 p.m., with tipoff at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
