The Sedalia City Council formally accepted a grant Tuesday, Dec. 23 to conduct a safety study for an intersection in the western part of the city.
Meeting in a special session at noon, the Council authorized participation in the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Traffic Engineering Assistance Program. City administrator Matthew Wirt says the $12,000 grant will go toward a study of an intersection near U.S. Route 50 or West Broadway.
Wirt notes that the acceptance deadline is Monday, necessitating Tuesday’s special meeting. One additional step could involve a similar study on the opposite side of U.S. 50.
The city council also approved an agreement with SE3 to conduct the intersection study, which is due May 1. Wirt acknowledges that the studies are the first step for any improvements and construction may not take place for several years.
