It wasn’t a very Merry Christmas for the Kansas City Chiefs, who couldn’t score a touchdown in the second half in a 20-13 loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday.

Denver began the game with a 14-play, 56-yard drive that resulted in a 27-yard field goal from Wil Lutz.

The Kansas City offense got off to a slow start, punting on its first drive. The Chiefs got the ball back after Nick Bolton intercepted a pass from Bo Nix, giving the Chiefs a short field at the Denver 35.

It took ten plays, but quarterback Chris Oladokun was able to drive the Chiefs 35 yards into the endzone, scoring the game’s first touchdown with a five-yard pass to Brashard Smith. Denver would add another field goal in the second quarter, as the Chiefs carried a 7-6 lead in the half.

The Chiefs added a field goal on the opening drive of the third quarter to increase their lead, but Denver put together a 72-yard scoring drive capped off by a rushing touchdown from Nix.

After trading punts to start the fourth quarter, Harrison Butker nailed a 47-yard field goal to tie the game 13-13. That gave Denver the ball back with eight minutes left to play. Nix drove the Broncos down the field, scoring the game-winning touchdown with a one-yard pass to RJ Harvey. Kansas City had one final drive with 1:45 left, but the drive stalled at the Denver 26 as the Chiefs turned it over on downs.

Oladokun completed 13 of 22 passes for 66 yards with a touchdown. Kareem Hunt led the Chiefs with seven carries for 38 yards. Travis Kelce recorded five catches for 36 yards.

The Chiefs fall to 6-10 on the season, while the Broncos improve to 13-3. Kansas City will wrap up the regular season with a road trip to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders on Sunday, January 4. The start time of that game is still TBD.
