No injuries were reported after Marshall firefighters responded to a fire in the attic of a home on Eastwood Drive on Monday, Dec. 29.

Two trucks were toned to a structure fire around 5:30 a.m. According to the fire department, firefighters met the home’s owner in the driveway, who reported a dark spot in the front bedroom ceiling. The team of four firefighters entered the room and spotted a small fire that had burned through the ceiling. The crew pulled down the ceiling to extinguish the fire, then removed surrounding insulation and part of a ceiling joist to clear out any possible embers.

Firefighters say a short-circuiting electrical wire sparked the fire, leading to about $10,000 in damages. While no injuries were reported, the department noted that they did not observe a smoke detector installed at the home.
