A pair of Slater residents have been arrested and charged after being caught stealing from a rural Malta Bend residence.

According to a probable cause statement, deputies with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office made contact with a witness who reported seeing a suspect steal various items from his neighbor’s property on December 23rd. The witness was able to provide details on the suspect’s vehicle, including the license plate information.

Law enforcement located the vehicle in Marshall and conducted a traffic stop, making contact with two suspects identified as Craig Fizer and Brandy Baker. Both suspects admitted to stealing various items from the victim’s property and offloading them to a location in Gilliam.

Baker told authorities that she had stolen items from the victim’s property on three separate occasions from December 19th to December 23rd. The stolen property included clothing, tools, a generator, and two trailers. Baker also admitted that she stole the victim’s debit card and took approximately $800 in cash from multiple ATM’s.

Authorities were able to locate the stolen property at the Gilliam residence.

Baker is facing felony charges for stealing $750 or more and burglary in the second degree. Fizer has been charged with a felony for burglary in the second degree and a misdemeanor for stealing. Bond for both has been set at $10,000 cash only.

Arraignment was held on Monday, December 29th. A confined docket hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 31st, at Saline County Circuit Court.
