The Saline County Commission enacted a new ordinance Wednesday, Dec. 31, adding overnight camping, loitering, and prolonged occupancy to the list of activities prohibited on properties owned or rented by the county.

Commissioners Stephanie Gooden and Becky Plattner voted in favor of the new ordinance, which will ban those activities from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The ordinance now applies to the annex building on South Odell, the Saline County Extension Office, the jail and justice center, juvenile facility, common road district facilities, Saline County Clerk’s Office, and the sites of the wastewater treatment plant and welcome center at the Marshall Junction. Violators of the ordinance may be subject to a fine of up to $500 and/or imprisonment in the county jail for up to 90 days.

Also Wednesday morning, the commission renewed their annual legal services agreement with the Ivan Schrader Law Firm. Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner was absent from Wednesday morning’s session.
