The Town of Carrollton has received a $41,198 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to fund the purchase of 39 picnic tables made from recycled tires, now installed and available for public use throughout Carrollton Parks.

The picnic tables, located in park shelter houses and other high-use areas, are constructed from recycled tire materials, offering a durable, low-maintenance, and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional wood tables. This project supports Missouri Department of Natural Resources mission to reduce landfill waste while enhancing public spaces.

Mayor Keith Higgins, who oversaw the grant award and project implementation, expressed appreciation for the collaborative effort that brought the project to completion. He says the new picnic tables are a win for the community and will “provide long-lasting park amenities while demonstrating the positive impact of recycling and sustainability.”

Installation of the tables was completed with the assistance of Parks Superintendent Lance Croy and the Carrollton Street Department, whose teamwork ensured the tables were assembled and placed efficiently throughout the parks. To celebrate the project, the Town of Carrollton in conjunction with the Carrollton Recreational Park Board plans to host a spring ribbon-cutting event inviting residents and community members to view the new picnic tables, learn more about the recycling initiative, and recognize the support provided through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources grant.

In addition to improving park infrastructure, the project serves as an educational opportunity by highlighting how recycled materials can be repurposed into functional community assets.
