A 17-year-old pedestrian from Oak Grove was struck and killed on westbound Interstate-70 on New Year’s Day.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident was reported when a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old Independence woman struck the pedestrian in the roadway while traveling westbound on I-70, near Mile Marker 18. The accident was reported at 8:46 p.m. Thursday evening.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The is the first fatal accident and first fatality of the year for the Patrol’s Troop A.
