
Fayette resident, Leon Frevert, age 91, passed away suddenly on January 3, 2026, at Sunterra Springs rehab facility in Springfield, MO.
Roy Leon Frevert was born June 29, 1934, in Howard County, MO. He was one of six children born to the late Otto Charles and Iona (Heying) Frevert, Sr. Leon graduated from Fayette High School. Following graduation, Leon started working as a lineman for Southwestern Bell telephone company. In April of 1957, Leon was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged after two years of service. On June 30, 1957, Leon married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Bolton at the Armstrong Methodist Church. Together, they enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Betsy preceded Leon in death on August 25, 2022.
Leon worked for Southwestern Bell for 36 years, retiring as a manager in 1991. He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America (Southwestern Bell and now AT&T). Leon served on the Fayette City Council and was a devoted member of the Fayette First Christian Church. In his free time, Leon loved golfing with his friends, bird hunting, mowing his yard and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his twin sons, Rick Frevert and Karen Burgess of St. Louis, MO and Randy (Joni) Frevert of Springfield, MO; three grandchildren, Kyle (Melissa) Frevert, Ryan (Aimee) Frevert and Anna (Shane) Pearman; four great-grandchildren, Hayden and Heath Frevert, and Avery and Eli Pearman; sister-in-law, Annie Frevert of Fulton, MO; special friend and caretaker, Linda Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Leon was preceded in death by his five siblings, Donald, Paul, Otto, Jr., Dorothy Childers and Dolly Campbell.
Visitation is 9-11 AM, Monday, January 12, 2026 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home following the visitation at 11 AM, with Rev. Sharae Kelley officiating. Interment will follow services at Roanoke Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Fayette First Christian Church or Roanoke Cemetery, c/o Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service.
