Contractors on the project making critical repairs to the Washington Street Bridge in Downtown Sedalia should begin soon, according to City Administrator Matthew Wirt.

Wirt provided a progress update to the Sedalia City Council at their meeting Monday, Jan. 5. He tells KMMO News crews with Double Arch Construction of Florence needed approval of their plans from Union Pacific Railroad before going forward, as the century-old span crosses the railroad’s property.
.

The $663,000 project calls for the repairing or replacing 13 columns supporting the approaches to the bridge, concrete removal and replacement, structural steel fabrication, surface preparation, and protective coatings.

Also Monday night, the council approved an agreement with S&A Equipment of Fulton for a number of sidewalk replacement projects this year, totaling about $478,000. Wirt says the project list had to be pared down for the low bid to get within the half-million dollars allocated.

This replacement project occurs as Sedalia also works to modernize sidewalks with their North Central Sidewalk Project for neighborhoods north of the railroad.

Sedalia’s City Council is scheduled to meet Saturday, Jan. 10 for their annual budget work session, reviewing all the strategic plans presented by department heads over the past three months. A special meeting will open at 8:30 a.m., where the council will be asked to approve a special event liquor license for a company’s holiday party set for that afternoon.
