
The Marshall Wrestling Invitational was held Saturday at Marshall High School, welcoming boys and girls teams from almost 20 different schools for action inside the Coach Jim Hargrave Gymnasium.
Richmond finished as the top team in the boy’s tournament, finishing with 175.5 points and several first place finishers. Leading Richmond was Brady Hyder (126 pounds) and Landon Garrett (285 pounds), who both placed first in their weight classes and earning 25.5 and 28 team points respectively. The next closest team was Rock Bridge, who ended up with 146 team points.
Marshall’s boys team came in 12th out of 23 teams, recording 56.5 team points. For the Owls, Levin Duncan secured a third place finish after defeating Grandview’s Anthony Cole by fall at 215 pounds. Nolan Igo finished in fourth at 138 pounds.
In the girls tournament, Brookfield was the top team with 126.5 team points, recording 20 more points than second place Lexington. Brookfield had seven wrestlers finish in the top four, including Jayden Keller (110 pounds), Payslie Alexander (120 pounds), and Hadlye Sackrey (125 pounds) all placing first in their classes.
Marshall finished tied with Lafayette County for fourth place with 90 total team points. Siam Palmer led the Lady Owls with 24 team points after defeating Richmond’s Abigail Smith by fall in the 115-pound first place match. Kiahna Gross (110 pounds), Braylee Farr (120 pounds), Alyssa Landwehr (130 pounds), Olivia Martin (140 pounds), and Taylor Sullivan (190 pounds) also recorded top four finishes in their classes.

The Marshall Wrestling Alumni Club (MWAC) also recognized its two new Hall of Fame Inductees and presented its scholarship awards during the event. This year’s inductees were Mitchell Stephenson and Jim Johnson. Stephenson was state champ in 1991, and Johnson placed 4th in 1975 and was Marshalls first 100 match winner. MHS Seniors Hayden Igo and Olivia Martin were then named the MWAC Scholarship winners.
