The former clerk of a special road district has changed her plea to guilty, admitting to the three charges she was facing.

In a Saline County courtroom Monday, Jan. 12, 54-year-old Stephanie D Meyer of Slater entered guilty pleas to a charge that she stole at least $25,000 from the Gilliam Special Road District, as well as forgery and fraudulent use of a credit device. Meyer had served as the district’s clerk from 2015 to 2024. According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Meyer is believed to have written checks to herself totaling $75,000 from 2017 to 2024, which deputies say was $46,000 in excess of her annual salary. She was also accused of using the district’s debit account to pay for her personal property taxes and a $327 purchase from Amazon sent to her address.

Meyer was arrested last March on the charges and entered her initial pleas of not guilty in June. With her guilty pleas accepted by the court, she’ll face sentencing the afternoon of March 9.
