The Missouri State High School Activities Association has released the district assignments for scholar bowl teams in our area.

The biggest move is in Class One, as shifting enrollments will result in defending Class Two champions Weaubleau dropping to this class. They will compete in a sprawling District Three that includes Prairie Home, as well as schools as far east as Viburnum and Wellsville-Middletown.  The winner of this district will travel to the winner of a District Four that includes North Shelby, who has appeared in each of the last five Class One title games.

With no defending champion in Class Two, the door is open for rising programs including last year’s fourth-place team Lincoln, and a recent arrival from Class Three, Marceline.  Also moving into Class Two is Pilot Grove.  Marshall also experiences a noticeable change for their district. While the Owls are still in Class Five, they will now travel northwest to District Eight instead of competing in a district with West Central Missouri’s larger schools.

Two of last year’s finalists in Class Five are down to Class Four this year.  Runners-up New Heights Christian of Joplin and fourth-place finishers Center have both moved down.  Center now shares a district with Chillicothe, with the winner potentially facing last year’s Class Four third place team in the quarterfinals, Oak Grove.

Each district tournament will take place April 18, with the best-of-three quarterfinals on April 28. The state finals will take place May 8 and 9 at Memorial Union on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia. Several of our area teams will start the spring portion of their schedule Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Roadrunner Scholastic Tournament, hosted by State Fair Community College in Sedalia.
