With students returning to school after a three-day weekend, one area district is reminding motorists to stop for their school buses.
In a letter to his district’s patrons Friday, Jan. 16, Marceline R-V Schools Supt. Dr Zach Bruner warned that the district’s bus drivers have recorded six instances where vehicles ignore the stop sign extended from their buses when students are boarding or unloading. Bruner noted that each incident was recorded by cameras on the district’s buses and forwarded to the Marceline Police Department for review.
Missouri state law requires motorists to stop when a school bus’ stop sign is extended. Violators can have their driver’s license suspended if found guilty of the Class A misdemeanor. Additional school bus safety tips are available on the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Save MO Lives website.
