The Pettis County R-5 School District Board of Education reviewed and approved several district policies during its meeting on Wednesday, January 21st.
The first of these policies is 5215, which refers to establishing a traumatic blood loss protocol. This policy outlines procedures for school staff in the event of severe bleeding emergencies until paramedics arrive. Superintendent Amy Fagg says the district needs to have staff trained to use bleeding control kits. Fagg says Pettis County R-5 already had trained staff members, but the policy still needed to be adopted by the board.
The other policy was 5260, which requires the district to designate a School Safety Coordinator for each building. Fagg explains the School Board will have to appoint these coordinators for the 2026-2027 school year during a future meeting.
In other news, the board decided to renew the contracts for both Elementary Principal Kelly Weathers and Junior High/High School Principal Shane Ringen for the next two years.
