
The Lafayette County Commission has announced the approval of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget after several weeks of cutting and consolidation.
The budget was approved unanimously by the commission during a hearing on Wednesday, January 21st. The budget includes $5,724,917 in anticipated General Revenue and estimated expenditures of $6,881,788. The county’s General Revenue Fund began the fiscal year with a cash carryover of $1,377,071 and will use those funds to cover the deficit. The estimated cash carryover at the end of 2026 will be $220,200.84. This represents the lowest cash carryover since 2011.
Several county departments were required to lower expenditures in 2026 to help balance the budget. The reductions include more than $120,000 for the Assessor’s Office, $100,000 for the Collector, $80,000 for the County Clerk, $47,000 for the Recorder, and $20,000 for the Prosecuting Attorney.
