The New Franklin R-1 Board of Education took the first step in a major bond project, moving forward with a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for kitchen remodeling work.

The board voted to move forward with the RFQ during its January 21st meeting. Superintendent Benji Dorson says the project aims to modernize and improve the 60-year-old kitchen.

The board hopes to review the RFQs during their next meeting on February 18th. This project is being funded by the district $2 million bond that was approved several years ago. This bond also funded HVAC, roofing, and tuck pointing projects.

The Board of Education also approved the notice of election for Tuesday, April 7th. The board has three seats on the ballot and four candidates have signed up. The current incumbents up for re-election include Jeff Chitwood, Sam Hackman, and Judd Evans. Graduation for the 2025-2026 school year was also scheduled for Sunday, May 10th.
