Authorities in Macon County say a domestic disturbance led to the shooting death of an Ethel man, with a woman in the residence now facing a murder charge.

A probable cause statement accuses 39-year-old Melanie D Grigsby of firing a single shot into the chest of 51-year-old Lawrence Jackson the evening of Jan. 23. According to the statement, the two had gotten into an argument over content on his cell phone. A juvenile in the home told deputies that during that argument, Grigsby had struck Jackson in the face twice with a spatula she was using to cook dinner. Jackson then put Grigsby in a headlock, prompting one of the juveniles to intervene. The statement then goes on to allege that Grisgby and Jackson continued their argument in the living room, leading to Grigsby removing a firearm from her purse in the master bedroom and loading ammo in it. Jackson then confronted Grigsby in their bedroom, and when he asked where her gun was, Grigsby allegedly fired the lethal shot into Jackson.

Grigsby is behind bars in the Macon County Jail, facing first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges. She’s currently being held without bond, with her initial hearing set for Monday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m.
