The Higginsville Police Department arrested two subjects for allegedly stealing an A/C unit and then fleeing from authorities in Lafayette County on Friday, January 30th.

According to a probable cause statement, a property owner on Highway E notified authorities of a suspicious vehicle that was parked near his residence at around 9 a.m. The property owner then reported that the occupants of the suspicious vehicle stole an outside air conditioning unit on the property.

An officer observed the suspicious vehicle traveling southbound on Highway E and attempted a U-turn to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped away and eluded the officer. The Higginsville Police Department was later able to locate the vehicle and arrest both Micheale Blay, of Kansas City, and Robert Turner, of Warsaw. Inside the vehicle, police found a large amount of hand tools, copper tubing for an air conditioning unit, and a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Police also recovered a hand bag that was thrown to the side of the road by Turner. The bag reportedly has several syringes, a metal spoon, a glass pipe, and a clear bag with about three grams of methamphetamine.

Blay, who was the driver of the vehicle, has been charged with felonies for burglary in the second degree, stealing, aggravated fleeing, 2nd degree assault of a special victim, attempted escape from confinement, property damage in the first degree, and possession of a controlled substance. Turner is charged with burglary in the second degree, stealing, possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with physical evidence. No bond has been allowed for either subject.

Court dates are pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
