The City of Marshall’s Community Development and Code Committee reviewed a proposed permit and inspection fee schedule during a meeting Monday afternoon.

Committee members John Allen Jr. and Harold Simmons reviewed the proposal provided by City Administrator JD Kehrman and Communications Director Anmarie Gibson, which proposed permits for electric, mechanical, residential roof, and plumbing work at a flat fee of $35.

The commercial roof permit would be $50. Other notable permits costs include $150 for solar panel and gas fireplace installations, $50 for demolition along with a $500 deposit for sewer capping, and a $200 fee for vacant property registration.

Kehrman explained why the committee might be interested in flat fees as opposed to a valuation-based schedule.

The committee decided to not make any recommendation regarding the fee schedule. Allen and Simmons decided instead to plan a work session with the rest of the City Council to review the fees in more detail.

The Community Development and Code Committee did give a recommendation to draft an ordinance passing the third-party plan review and inspection costs from the Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) on to applicants.

The ordinance will likely be presented to the Marshall City Council during its meeting on Tuesday, February 17th.
