The Marshall City Council approved both readings Tuesday, Feb. 3 of an ordinance authorizing a line interconnect agreement between the city’s Board of Public Works and Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company.

The ordinance was sought by Marshall Municipal Utilities as part of the project building a new gas power facility on Boyd Street. City administrator JD Kehrman says MMU requested both readings Tuesday night, as construction is moving along.

MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom told the council that Panhandle would need about six months to complete the connection, and the first turbines need to start generating power no later than Dec. 1. Kehrman says when the new power plant is online, the city should expect to see increased revenue.

The Marshall City Council also approved the final reading of an ordinance authorizing MMU’s agreement with Septagon Construction for pre-construction work at the utility’s administration building, and gave first reading to the city’s annual emergency management agreement with Saline County. Mayor Craig Thompson’s nomination of Brian Lovell to a seat on the library board was approved, with his term expiring in July 2027.
