After more than a decade at Missouri Valley College, Derek Bohnsack is joining Marshall Public Schools to serve as the district’s next Activities Director beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

Bohnsack will succeed Kelly Callanan, who is departing Marshall Public Schools to become the activities director for the Boonville R-1 School District. Bohnsack currently serves as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at MVC. He says he’s looking forward to the change after 16 years as both a student and employee at the college.

 

One major problem Bohnsack will face is the lack of conference membership for MPS after the North Central Missouri Conference dissolves at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. Bohnsack says he’ll’ be working with Superintendent Caleb Petet to find the right fit for Marshall.

 

Bohnsack’s hiring was approved during a special closed session of the Marshall Public Schools Board of Education on Tuesday, February 3.
