The Lewis Library of Glasgow is celebrating its 160th year in 2026 with a series of events throughout the year.

Lewis Library is the second oldest in the State of Missouri and the oldest in continuous use as a public library west of the Mississippi River. Library Board President Steve Renne details the storied history of the building, which dates back to 1866.

The Library Board planned to kick off this year’s celebrations with an open house on January 25th, but the event was postponed due to inclement weather. Renne says the plan is to now hold the open house when it warms up again this spring.

Other notable events include a Trivia Night on March 14th, and an ice cream social and putt putt golf tournament on September 26th. The Lewis Library is open from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. More information about the library’s 160th anniversary can be found here.
