A series of projects to improve traffic through the Macon area will begin Monday, Feb. 9, starting with a number of bridges receiving rehabilitation.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin the projects along U.S. Route 36, reducing traffic to one lane with a ten-foot width restriction at the bridges over Gantz Street and Long Branch Lake Road, as well as underneath the bridge at the junction with U.S. Route 63. Similar lane restrictions will also go in place atop the bridge.
Following the rehabilitation work, crews will then begin completing intersection improvements at the junction. That work will include the addition of right-hand turn lanes along the off-ramps, signals and lighting improvements. Additional signal, lighting and median improvements are planned at Route 63 and Briggs Drive. The intersection at Route 36 and Kellogg Avenue will also receive safety improvements, as part of resurfacing work slated to begin in mid-March from Kellogg west to about two miles west of Bevier. Additional lane closures may occur during the overnight hours.
Magruder Paving of Troy was awarded the $8.1 million contract. All work is scheduled for completion by Oct. 1.
