Ann Payne, 91, of Independence, MO, died Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2026, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.  Graveside services will follow in Nelson Cemetery in Nelson.  Memorials are suggested to Nelson Cemetery and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born March 16, 1934, in Nelson, MO, she was the daughter of the late Shuck T. Verts and Lois Richardson Verts.  Ann was raised in the Nelson area where she was a 1952 graduate of Nelson High School.  On June 6, 1953, she married Daniel F. “Dan” Payne who preceded her in death on March 19, 2021.  She worked in the banking industry for many years, beginning at Farmer’s Savings Bank in Marshall, and when the family moved to the Kansas City area in the mid 1950’s, she continued her career and concluded it with Bank of America.  In addition to her career, she was a homemaker for her family and took great pride in keeping an immaculate home.  Family was important to Ann and Dan and they attended as many activities as they could that their grandchildren were involved in.  A few of her hobbies included gardening, cooking, sewing, and arts and crafts.

Survivors include four daughters: Gayle Kirkpatrick (Jerry) of Independence; Becky Schussler of Lee’s Summit, MO, Lori Payne of Kansas City, MO, and Carrie Beard of St. Peters, MO; nine grandchildren, Scott Kirkpatrick, Craig Kirkpatrick, Ross Kirkpatrick (Megan), Adam Schussler (Becca), Brian Livingston (Emma), Megan Hovick, Aaron Beard (Lizzy), Cassie Beard and Alex Beard; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Bailey (Bruce) of Chicago, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Caton.
