gavel-judge-court-trial

The Moberly man accused of shooting a woman on his front porch last July is scheduled for a two-day bench trial in June.

The trial of 68-year-old David Kip Heyde on a second-degree murder charge will now take place June 25 and 26 in a Randolph County courtroom before senior judge Robert Koffman. Heyde had originally been scheduled for trial last week, but both prosecutors and defense attorneys requested a delay.

Heyde is accused of the July 6, 2025 shooting death of 23-year-old Bailey Scott. A probable cause statement says that the two got into an argument over feeding birds in his yard. First responders arrived around 7:30 p.m. to find Scott dead on the front porch with a single gunshot to the torso and Heyde sitting nearby. Heyde told authorities that Scott had struck him in the face, which resulted in the shooting, but the Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper who submitted the statement said no bruising or swelling had been observed on Heyde’s face.

Heyde remains held on $100,000 bond.
