Saline County voters will see a proposed tax credit opportunity for a taxpayer’s primary residence appear on the April 7, 2026 ballot.

Circuit Judge Josh Taylor agreed to a request from Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Thompson on Tuesday, Feb. 10, authorizing placement of the measure on the last day that a court order could allow items to appear on this spring’s municipal election ballot. The measure, if passed by voters, will allow a Saline County taxpayer to claim a tax credit on their primary residence should the tax liability on their home increase by more than five percent year-over-year. The senior tax credit would remain available for residents at least 62 years of age.

The ballot measure was spurred by passage of Senate Bill 3 last summer by lawmakers, which named Saline among 75 counties in Missouri that need to put the measure before voters this April. Voters in another 22 counties including Johnson will have the opportunity to extend the senior tax credit, which provides a credit equivalent to any increases in valuation that are not the result of property additions or improvements to a primary residence, to all ages. Appeals against the dismissal of lawsuits challenging SB3 remain pending at an appellate court.
