A Marshall man will go on probation for the next five years after pleading guilty to five charges that stemmed from a domestic disturbance and standoff outside Blackburn last year.

42-year-old Andrew Christopher Souder accepted a plea deal Monday, Feb. 9 with Saline County Prosecutors, where Souder admitted to charges of second-degree domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, and attempting to tamper with a victim in a felony prosecution. As part of the deal, a charge of armed criminal action was dropped.

According to court documents, Saline County Sheriff’s deputies were called twice to a home on Route 127 the evening of March 26. The first time, deputies alleged that Souder had grabbed his romantic partner by the throat. Deputies later returned to the home after reports of shots being fired. They later found Souder barricaded in the residence. A six-hour standoff where Souder claimed to have grenades and explosives ended when troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol administered tear gas to force him out. Prosecutors filed additional charges in April, accusing Souder of making threatening statements to his partner after his arrest.

Souder received a suspended sentence totaling 19 years on four of the counts, along with ten months for the tampering charge. Online records indicate that Souder was released from the Saline County Jail on Monday afternoon to begin his five years of supervised probation.
