A Sedalia man and Columbia juvenile were arrested after leading authorities on a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle on Tuesday, February 10th.
According to the Pettis County Sheriff’s Department, deputies located a stolen vehicle traveling north near Highway M and Pleasant Hill Road. While attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to yield and began driving over 90 miles per hour (MPH). During the pursuit, the vehicle avoided stop sticks at Highway M and U.S. Highway 50 as the vehicle continued north through the intersection onto Harding.
The stolen vehicle turned west on Boonville Road and later became airborne crossing the Katy Trail striking a mailbox and trash can. The vehicle turned north on Heard, west on Chestnut, then north on Engineer at speeds of approximately 70 MPH. As opposed to making the east turn onto Griessen, the driver continued north through an open field, through a barbed wire fence, across a ditch, through a cattle panel, and coming to rest after striking a tree.
Deputies ordered the two occupants out of the vehicle at gunpoint with only the passenger, later identified as 21-year-old Jayden Kuhne, of Sedalia, complying. He was taken into custody. The driver, later identified as a juvenile male out of Columbia, fled on foot. A K9 was deployed and began a track as a perimeter was set up. Deputies and MSHP located the juvenile a short time later in a wooded area east of Nucor. He was taken into custody without incident. The Juvenile Office was contacted and will later submit charges.
Kuhne has been charged with felonies for tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree, aggravated fleeing, and property damage in the first degree. No court dates have been set at this time.
