The Carrollton R-VII School Board learned at their meeting Tuesday night that the end of a federal program will result in a $92,000 drop in the amount of funds coming into the district’s food service.
Supt. Dr Tinna Croy says with USDA ending its Food Supply Chain Assistance program, the district will have to rely on their general revenue to cover the gap.
Croy says one area of cost savings has been the shifting of the district’s breakfast service back to to cafeteria, rather than delivered to each classroom.
Croy adds that the district and one of its social workers, Jackie Bounds, have worked to encourage families who qualify for free and reduced lunches to complete their paperwork. She notes that because of outside donations, the district was able to eliminate outstanding school meal balances before the start of the school year. Outstanding balances this school year in Carrollton presently total close to $2400.
