A Jefferson City man has been arrested and charged after allegedly leading Lafayette County authorities on a high-speed chase down Interstate-70 on Saturday, February 14th.

According to a probable cause statement, a Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle driven by Darius Deontae Davis traveling at 86 miles per hour (mph) in a 70 mph posted zone. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Davis allegedly began to flee and travel at speeds over 90 mph. The vehicle maintained a high rate of speed through work zones on I-70 as well.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol were able to deploy stops sticks on the vehicle, which came to a stop a short time later. Authorities arrested Davis, who was driving with a revoked license and license plates not registered to his vehicle. Deputies also located a pill that identified as a schedule 2 controlled substance in the vehicle. Another passenger in the vehicle was released without any charges. Davis also had several other warrants for failure to appear at the time of his arrest.

Davis has been charged with felonies for aggravated fleeing and possession of a controlled substance. He’s also been charged with misdemeanors for domestic assault in the fourth degree, driving while revoked, and exceeding the posted speed limit. Bond has been set at $75,000 cash only. No court appearances have been set at this time.
