The City of Marshall is publishing a web page Tuesday, Feb. 17 explaining why the city is seeking a new half-cent sales tax dedicated to funding street improvements over the next three years.
The city’s Municipal Services Committee reviewed a final version at a meeting Friday morning, which the city says aims to inform residents before they make their voices heard at the polls April 7. Communications director Anmarie Gibson says she and city staff anticipated what questions residents might have about the measure to determine what answers will appear online.
.
Gibson says residents who have additional questions about the proposal are invited to attend one of two forums at the City Office Building over the next two weeks.
A second forum is scheduled for March 5. The web page is posted on the City of Marshall’s web site.
Also at last week’s committee meeting, an updated list of street repairs prioritized by the city’s Municipal Works department was reviewed, with notes indicating what streets were also impacted by underground projects included on the Marshall Municipal Utilities’ five-year plan. The list would need final approval from the city council, and could be impacted by emergency water main repairs, resource costs and availability, and other unforeseen issues.
Meanwhile the Marshall City Council will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m., beginning their session with a public hearing to receive comment on the city’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit renewal application.
