The Glasgow School District is now accepting bids for maintenance services at John Donaldson Field, the baseball diamond named in honor of the Negro Leagues pitcher born in Glasgow on Feb. 20, 1891.

The bid proposal was finalized at the Wednesday, Feb. 18 board of education meeting, according to superintendent Stacey Kottman.

Feb. 20 is now recognized in Missouri as John Donaldson Day, following passage of a bill last spring. Kottman said staff and students took part in a letter-writing campaign last year to support the designation.

Also Wednesday night, the school board recognized a steel donation from Monnig Industries for use by the district’s ag programs.

Board members also approved the calendar for the 2026-27 school year, which will include 170 school days. The board also approved contract extensions for principals Jessica Elson at the elementary school, Molly Monnig at the middle school, and Rex Beltz at the high school, and hired Ed Lammers to serve as band director for the remainder of the school year.
