Jackson Meyer’s 28th point of the game in Glasgow’s 64-49 victory over Tipton on Saturday, Feb. 21 was a memorable one, as the senior confirmed his place as one of the best players in Yellowjacket history as he reached the 2000-point mark.
It occurred with less than a minute to go in the game, with Glasgow well on track to their 22nd win of the season. Meyer went to the line for a pair of free throws, and the senior post player hit his first attempt, igniting a celebration on the Glasgow bench and amongst the Yellowjacket supporters who had made the trek down to Tipton. Meyer would miss the second free throw, but was greeted with another ovation when he was subbed out at the next clock stoppage.
As for the game itself, the two sides traded the lead throughout the first period with the Yellowjackets on top by two, 17-15 after one quarter. The visitors increased that lead to 33-24 at intermission and then went ahead by double digits most of the second half. Tipton did briefly cut the deficit to seven early in the fourth period, but that was as close as they got with Glasgow eventually stretching their advantage to 15, the biggest margin of the day, 64-49 when the final horn sounded.
Glasgow’s win was bolstered by a big difference in the two side’s free throw shooting as the Yellowjackets were 21 of 24 at the charity stripe while the Cardinals ended up six of 16. Besides the 28 points scored by Meyer, Bronson Foster tacked on 14 for a Yellowjacket squad that won for the 20th time in their last 22 outings as they improved to 22-4 on the season. Tipton fell to 16-9 overall. Andrew Bestgen had 12 points and William Cashman tallied 10 for the Cardinals.
