A weekend crash in eastern Johnson County has resulted in multiple charges against one of the drivers.

49-year-old Scott C Miller of Knob Noster is facing seven counts, including second-degree assault, driving while revoked, and driving while intoxicated causing serious injury, after a two-vehicle collision Saturday, Feb. 21 at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Route D seriously injured two people. According to the probable cause statement, Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. to the reported crash, where they determined that an SUV was blocking the left lane of eastbound Route 50 after it had been struck on the passenger side. The man driving the SUV told deputies that a pickup had pulled onto the highway at the time he was entering the intersection, resulting in the collision. A passenger in the SUV was partially ejected and had to be flown from the scene to a Columbia hospital.

Deputies say they then identified Miller as the pickup’s driver, and spotted him directing traffic south of the scene. The statement goes on to note that Miller told deputies that he had consumed alcohol the night before, and that a breath sample supplied by Miller indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.149%.

Miller was arrested at the scene and taken to the Johnson County Jail, with his initial appearance in court Monday afternoon. Another hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon to consider whether his bond of $50,000 cash only should be reduced.
