The Fayette Board of Aldermen passed both readings of an amendment to the city’s current building code regarding alternative fire protection measures during its meeting on Tuesday, February 24th.

The city’s primary fire safety regulation is the 2015 International Fire Code, which City Administrator Deanna Cooper says has vague wording regarding fire protection and suppression for older and historic buildings. Cooper says the amendment takes the building’s age into consideration moving forward.

Aldermen also gave approval for the Howard County Consolidated Water District #2 to become a new member and purchasing customer of the county’s Regional Water District. Curtis Hammons will represent the city and relay the board’s decision during the regional water board meeting. The board then approved a change order with BS&A for a new data extraction method as the city migrates its accounting system. The change order does not present any additional cost to the city.
