An Indianapolis man was arrested after leading authorities on a high speed chase down Interstate-70 in a stolen vehicle on Tuesday, February 24th.
According to a probable cause statement, the pursuit began after a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Nebraska traveling on eastbound I-70. The vehicle began to speed away, allegedly traveling at speeds of approximately 120 miles per hour. Officers with the Odessa Police Department set up a tire deflation device at Mile Marker 36, however, the stolen vehicle steered into the path of the officer operating the device on the shoulder, causing the officer to flee to avoid being hit. The vehicle became entangled with the device’s string and injured the hand of the officer.
The vehicle continued to speed down I-70, even after both driver’s side tires were deflated by the Higginsville Police Department. The pursuit continued through Saline County and into Cooper County, where the vehicle struck another tire deflation device at Mile Marker 90 and lost control. The vehicle skidded into the median, overturned, and ejected the driver.
The driver, identified as Sawnen Wah, was taken to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment and later taken to into custody.
Wah has been charged with felonies for assault of a special victim in the second degree, aggravated fleeing, and tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree. No bond has been allowed. No court appearances have been set at this time.
