Another grade of Greyhounds will make their way to Sweet Springs Junior High and High School next school year.
At their board of education meeting Feb. 11, the Sweet Springs R-VII school board learned from Supt. Lori Price that sixth grade classes will move next school year from the elementary school to the junior high. According to provisional minutes from the meeting, Price told the board that the move would help provide support for their social, emotional, and behavioral well-being, and fill district staffing needs. Pre-Kindergarten will move into the elementary school building. As part of the transition, counselors will arrange a tour of the junior high this spring for all fifth- and sixth-graders. The board and school leaders will need to decide at a later date whether to expand junior high athletics to allow sixth-graders to participate.
Also this month, two facility requests were approved by the board as part of their consent agenda, including the spring’s schedule of games for the city’s recreation board, while the Sweet Springs Alumni Basketball Tournament will take place in March. The Sweet Springs School Board will next meet March 19.
