UPDATE: The suspect was later identified and taken into custody

An officer with the Boonville Police Department was dealt minor injuries while providing mutual aid on a pursuit on Interstate-70 on Friday, February 27th.

According to the department, a Cooper County Deputy initiated a pursuit of a motor vehicle within the city limits of Boonville at 3:34 a.m. Mutual aid was requested, and an officer with the Boonville Police Department assisted as the pursuit continued eastbound onto Interstate 70.

The pursuit proceeded into Boone County, where pursuing officers requested the deployment of tire deflation devices. The devices were deployed at approximately the 124-mile marker on I-70, where the suspect vehicle was able to avoid the tire deflation devices. While the suspect vehicle avoided the devices, the Cooper County Deputy’s patrol vehicle and a Boonville Police Department patrol vehicle made contact. As a result, the Boonville officer’s vehicle spun out of control and struck the concrete median barrier separating the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-70.

The Boonville Police Officer was able to exit the vehicle independently and sustained only minor scratches and burns related to airbag deployment. The Cooper County Deputy was also not seriously injured.

The pursuit of the suspect vehicle remains under investigation.
