The Saline County Career Center and Marshall High School will soon become the newest addition to the Missouri Jobs for America’s Graduates program.

The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education approved a memorandum of understanding to establish the program, which provides another pathway for students to achieve career-readiness. JAG’s introduction to the district is a vision coming to fruition for assistant superintendent David Reinke.

Making the pitch for JAG were four students from the program at Brookfield, led by advisers Stephanie Berger and Sarah Willis. Damien Gunter joined JAG when it was introduced at Brookfield three years ago, and says he’s gained more than just job skills from the program.

Gunter represents his region on this year’s Missouri JAG officer team, which allowed him to attend conferences across the state and in Washington, and recently visit with lawmakers in Jefferson City. Reinke says he hopes Marshall students will have similar experiences as the program develops.

Reinke says Marshall will hire a JAG specialist this spring and begin identifying students who may benefit from the program. He adds he anticipates as many as 60 students joining JAG next school year.
