A Sedalia judge will hear arguments Tuesday on whether Lafayette County’s Commission can join the lawsuit filed by the Saline County Assessor against her county’s commission.

At a motion hearing scheduled in a Saline County courtroom, Senior Judge Robert Koffman will consider the request that prompted the previous judge in the case to recuse herself in November. The lawsuit filed in November 2022 by assessor Jessica Adcock Goodman challenges the Saline County Commission on her office’s funding levels. Among Goodman’s arguments is that Saline County is no longer eligible to remain a fourth-class county and should instead be considered a third-class county. Because Lafayette County is also a fourth-class county, commissioners there petitioned in August to join the lawsuit in support of the Saline County Commission.

The hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Saline County Courthouse in Marshall.
