kmmo-arrest

A Columbia man is facing a felony charge after allegedly leading authorities on a high speed vehicle pursuit down Interstate-70 on Friday, February 27th.

According to a probable cause statement, a Cooper County Sheriff deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle speeding in the city limits of Boonville at 3:34 a.m. The vehicle then began to speed away, traveling almost 80 miles per hour in a posted 30 mph zone and then accelerating to 117 mph down I-70. Mutual aid was requested during the chase.

At approximately Mile Marker 124, deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office attempted to deploy tire deflation devices, which the suspect vehicle swerved to avoid. The Cooper County deputy collided with a patrol vehicle with the Boonville Police Department, resulting in a crash that closed multiple lanes of I-70 for a brief period. The suspect vehicle continued down eastbound I-70 as the pursuit was terminated. Both law enforcement officers only had minor injuries in the crash.

Deputies reviewed surveillance footage at a business in Boonville and identified 36-year-old DeAngelo Jones as the driver of the vehicle. Jones was later observed returning to the business at 6 a.m. and taken into custody. Jones denied he was the one operating the vehicle during the chase, even though surveillance video allegedly captured evidence of him driving the car.

Jones is facing a felony charge for aggravated fleeing. No bond has been allowed at this time. Court appearances are pending at Cooper County Circuit Court.
