A Saline County judge will conduct a hearing Tuesday, Mar. 10 on the proposed formation of a transportation development district at the Marshall Junction.
The proposed district would cover the two parcels at the southeast corner of Interstate 70 and U.S. Route 65, purchased last October by Love’s Travel Stops, where the Oklahoma-based retailer plans to build a new truck stop later this year. According to their petition, Love’s seeks to establish the district and levy an additional one-percent sales tax on non-fuel transactions to fund transportation improvements surrounding their new location. An exhibit filed with the petition estimates that the tax would generate about $40,000 in revenue annually.
Both Saline County and Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission have indicated in their filings no objections to the district’s formation. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. The Saline County Commission has posted notice that they will meet in closed session after the hearing to discuss legal matters.
